Stern Grove Playground – CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE (updated Sept 1, 2021)
The courts were refurbished in 2020 and offer two multi-use tennis courts with a total of 6 pickleball courts (4 lined pickleball on either side of the tennis nets and 2 in between the 2 tennis courts, usable only when both courts are reserved for pickleball). Regular DROP-IN sessions are scheduled (see below).
Courts can also be reserved via Spotery. Walk-on players during non-drop-in session hours must follow the tennis rules posted at the venue and observe court waiting etiquette per signage.
Stern Grove courts are set among the eucalyptus forest right next to Sloat Blvd. Easy parking on Sloat, unless there’s a Sunday concert in the Grove. The trees do shed, so some sweeping may be required after a windy day. Restrooms are down in the hollow near the Festival stage.
Play Schedule
Beginning June 15, 2021, Stern Grove DROP-IN sessions are guaranteed during the following hours:
- M – F from 10:30 Am – 1:30 PM
- Saturdays 2pm-5pm
Sundays 10:30am-3pm
As the courts are multi-use with tennis, nets must be set up. Volunteers are designated to set up nets that are on-site in a storage box. Players should bring their own paddles and balls, although a supply of balls should be available in the storage box too. Voluntary donations for equipment needs are gladly accepted – see a volunteer to contribute.
