Youth Pickleball Volunteering at Boys and Girls Club of SF (BGCSF)

Last school year was a great first year experience in introducing Pickleball to the kids who spend their after-school hours with the BGCSF in various Clubhouse gyms throughout the City. (https://www.kidsclub.org/about/who-we-are)

Volunteers help to instruct teen interns and young players at each clubhouse.  This past years’ experience was introductory fun for the kids and community volunteers. This past year we held play sessions at 4 clubhouses, which meant 50+ sessions, often with 20-30 kids at a session.

This school year we are altering the format and hosting dedicated “seasons” for Pickleball instruction and play.  Club youth (and parents) will be signing up for 8 weeks of pickleball and we want to have 3-4 volunteers on hand to coach/help at each clubhouse location. The goal is to develop better relationships with kids as skill development builds from week to week. This format improves the volunteer experience and provides continuity for BGSSF staff.

We started the Fall season program on Sept 11.  Sessions are on Monday’s at the Excelsior (Ex) Clubhouse and Tuesday’s at Don Fisher (DF).  Volunteer participation at these sessions is from 4:15 – 5:30 PM.  We plan to rotate clubhouses each “season”, so after Ex and DF in the Fall, we want to then offer youth play at two different clubhouses in the Winter, followed by two more in Spring.

Of course, none of this can happen without a generous time commitment from SFPC player volunteers.  And you don’t have to be there for Day 1, or every single class either.  And we need MORE volunteers to ensure we have resources to help over the course of the FULL year.

To participate, leave us your info on this Google form and we’ll be in touch.

There is a mandatory process to become an approved volunteer with BGCSF. We have documented the steps at the link below, and Luke Vandertie (lukevandertie2015@gmail.com) is available to help answer any questions
