Golden Gate Pickleball Club

For those in our local Pickleball community who have an interest in competition play and tournaments, you need to check out the GG Pickleball Club (GGPC).  They have sponsored several very well attended local events recently, and had a very successful re-launch of their USAPA sanctioned “Dinkin’ in the Fog” tournament that was held at Concord’s Willow Pass Park Pickleball Court complex in October.  The Club has been around awhile, but has recently re-focused their energies to concentrate on enabling competitive play events locally.  Besides formal competitions, GGPC has also hosted several pot-luck play events at Goldman Center.

This past weekend the Club sponsored a “Battle of the Bay” MLP-style (Major League Pickleball) competition at the Louis Sutter courts that featured excellent competitive play, with divisions at 4.0+, 3.5 and 3.0.  A lot of spectators also dropped by to check out the action.  For those not familiar with MLP, it’s an every-serve-results-in-a point format with teams of 2 men and 2 women that play with each team member in four head-to-head doubles matches against the other teams in an elimination competition.  Games are fairly time- predictable, which makes the format ideal for managing events, and is the format used by all those “Pickleball League” sponsorships you read about being bought up by the likes of LeBron James and Tom Brady.  In the case of the GGPC Sutter tournament, there was a bit of extra pride displayed whenever teams from the East Bay competed against local players, but a great time was had by all.  As usual, there was plenty of food and snacks for all the participants (and for spectators too).

The Club is open to everyone, and has a nominal membership fee.  If you’re interested in learning more about the Club, you can email them at  goldengatepickleballclubsf@gmail.com  or check out their Facebook group page  Golden Gate PB Club Facebook Group
